Hotel Salzburger Hof wanted tradition, not reinvention. I gave it sharper bones.

THE JAGDSTUBE IS THE IN-HOUSE RESTAURANT OF HOTEL SALZBURGER HOF IN BAD GASTEIN, AND THE PERSONAL FAVOURITE OF THE HOTEL OWNER. FOR MAGNUS, THE SWEDISH ENTREPRENEUR BEHIND THE HOTEL, THIS SPACE REPRESENTS EVERYTHING HE LOVES ABOUT AUSTRIAN CULTURE: THE HUNT, THE CRAFT, THE TRADITION. HE WANTED AN IDENTITY THAT MATCHED THAT PERSONAL INVESTMENT. MY TASK WAS TO TRANSLATE IT INTO SOMETHING THAT COULD STAND ON ITS OWN.

CONTEXT — A Place that earned its own name.

The Jagdstube has been part of Hotel Salzburger Hof for years. Guests came because they were already there. Not because they sought it out. That was the problem. A restaurant with atmosphere and history but nothing to show for it visually.

APPROACH — Not what I would have built. What it needed.

The first direction was clean and reduced. A minimal signet, built for flexibility and scale. Magnus looked at it and wanted the opposite. Not modern. Urig. Traditional. Something that felt like it had always been there.

That kind of feedback can go two ways. I chose to treat it as a brief, not a rejection. The direction shifted toward hunting iconography, Austrian tavern aesthetics, engraving-style detail. The result is more ornate than I would have made on my own. It is also exactly what the space deserved.

PROCESS — From reduction to tradition.

Not every project runs on a clean brief-to-delivery timeline. This one did not. Some decisions moved fast. Some feedback loops were short. What this project shows is not a perfect process. It shows how I work when conditions are not ideal: I adapt, I commit to a direction, and I make sure the client ends up somewhere better than where we started.

OUTCOME — A brand the client recognized as theirs.

The result is an identity the Jagdstube can build on. A mark and a visual language that gives the restaurant something it did not have before: its own presence. That was the goal from the start.
